The boys come riding up on mud spattered bikes. The little girls may have a baby brother in tow. They all come with a sense of excitement kindled by the announcement stapled to the bulletin board in places like the local store. That announcement that the VBS team was coming to the village. Vacation Bible School in SW Alaska is often held in a local church, school, or community hall. The servant teams from Alaska and the "lower 48" are prepared for the children with smiles, bible stories, crafts, and snacks. Some VBS programs have more than 100 children. Other programs may only have seven children. No matter the number every child is important. During the week the kids sing songs, learn scripture, pray, and build relationships with the VBS Teams.
These are good activities, but is the Holy Spirit working through all of this? Well, the team in Akiachak was walking along the road and were approached by a young man from the community. He said, I just want to bless you for what you are doing. Jesus has put peace and joy in my life. The team said the young man was compelled to talk about Jesus, and would hardly let them go.
From the blessing of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. Jn.1:16
